Everyone-Friendly Halloween: Teal Pumpkin Project

The Teal Pumpkin Project is an idea that was originally started as a way to give kids who live with food allergies a way to still be able to enjoy Halloween. The idea is that homes offer the option for children to pick a toy or trinket instead of candy. Some ideas listed on the website linked include:

  • bubbles
  • glow sticks/bracelets/necklaces
  • stickers
  • stencils
  • pencils
  • noise makers/whistles
  • mini slinkies

And more!

It’s perfect for more than just kids with food allergies though! Teal Pumpkin has come to mean so much to so many families. Including those with children who have autism, sensory processing disorders, food aversions, and more.

How do you know which kids should get candy vs which kids should get trinkets? You can ask if they have a reason they can’t have candy. Though most people simply give kids a choice: Treat or Trinket.

Where do you get Halloween-themed items for Teal Pumpkin? You can get them anywhere! I got my trinkets from Target this year. There are so many options to choose from, none of which are very expensive. The great thing about trinkets vs candy is that whatever you don’t give out this year, you can save for next year!

Have a happy Halloween everyone!
