2 In Autism/ Disabilities/ Mental Health

Hey everyone! Welcome to Zealous Zebra: what I wish you knew! I’m Hollyn! I’m 22 years old from Plano, Texas. I’m a medical zebra as we’re known, which means we’re people who have many lesser-known or rare conditions or many conditions not often found or thought to be found together. For example, I have several learning differences such as ADD/ADHD & dysgraphia. I also have Asperger’s Syndrome/High-functioning Autism, Bipolar 1 Disorder, & Generalized Anxiety Disorder. I’ve had Anorexia & Eating Disorder Not Otherwise Specified & I currently have Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome, Gastroparesis, Ehlers Danlos Syndrome-Hypermobility Type, & maybe more that we don’t yet know about. Doctors are still exploring my tests. I’m a massive cluster of medical non-literature that people, medical professionals & laypeople alike most often don’t understand. Hence, I’m a zebra. By the way, that comes from the medical saying “when you hear hoofbeats, think horses, not zebras”. Zebras are not obvious in medical speak. Neither are we. We are complex. We are misunderstood & not understood overall at all.

This blog is new, so please work with me while I get use to a flow & work out some kinks here & there. I’m working on a page where anyone who wishes to can submit their own “what I wish you knew”s about mental health, autism/developmental disability, or physical disability. If you have any suggestions or ideas for the blog, PLEASE send them my way! My contact info is on the Contact page on the top tabs! I’m always looking for ways to better & more accurately represent the community of people I feel so connected to.

Thanks for stopping by y’all!
